NOTI Institute, Panvel is looking to recruit Seamanship Instructor to support its maritime and offshore training programs.
Purpose of the Position
To plan, conduct and evaluate theoretical and practical training related to seamanship, deck operations, shipboard safety and maritime best practices, ensuring compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory and institute requirements while enhancing the competence of maritime professionals and cadets.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery
- Conduct classroom and practical training sessions for maritime candidates and professionals.
- Deliver training in accordance with approved course plans, learning objectives and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ensure effective knowledge transfer through lectures, demonstrations, workshops and practical exercises.
- Promote safe working practices during all training activities.
Practical Seamanship Training
- Conduct practical demonstrations and exercises relating to:
- Rope work and knotting
- Splicing techniques
- Mooring and unmooring operations
- Anchoring procedures
- Rigging and lifting operations
- Use of deck equipment
- Pilot ladders and gangways
- Deck maintenance and preservation
- Shipboard safety practices
Assessment and Evaluation
- Prepare and administer assessments, examinations and practical evaluations.
- Assess trainee competence against prescribed criteria.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to trainees.
- Maintain records of assessments and candidate performance.
Course Material and Development
- Assist in the preparation, review and revision of training materials, presentations, handouts and practical exercises.
- Recommend improvements to training programs based on industry developments and feedback received.
- Support the development of new courses and training modules where required.
Quality and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory, accreditation and institute requirements.
- Adhere to the institute's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Support internal and external audits, inspections and accreditation activities.
- Maintain training documentation and records as required by the institute.
Facility and Equipment Management
- Ensure proper utilization and care of training equipment and facilities.
- Report equipment defects, maintenance needs and resource requirements.
- Assist in maintaining practical training areas in a safe and operational condition.
Candidate Support and Professional Development
- Guide trainees on professional conduct, industry expectations and career development.
- Provide technical support and clarification to candidates during training programs.
- Encourage continuous learning and adherence to maritime safety culture.
Authorities
The Seamanship Instructor is authorized to:
- Conduct approved training courses and practical sessions.
- Assess trainee performance in accordance with approved assessment criteria.
- Recommend candidate re-assessment or additional training where necessary.
- Recommend improvements to training materials, facilities and training processes.
- Stop or suspend any practical activity that presents an unsafe condition.
Qualification Requirements
Essential
- Valid Certificate of Competency (CoC) appropriate to the training subjects being delivered.
- Relevant sea-going experience on merchant vessels.
- Good knowledge of seamanship practices, shipboard operations and maritime regulations.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
Preferred
- Chief Officer (FG) or Master (FG) Certificate of Competency.
- Prior teaching, training, or instructor experience.
- Experience in maritime training institutes or maritime education environments.
- Familiarity with training management systems and quality management systems.
