The Global Seafaring Human Resources Report is an effective assistive tool to understand the growing need of shipping in the global economy and the availability of seafarers from various countries, their numbers, future potential, and relative competitiveness. The report assists the ship owners and operators spread across the globe, to arrive at better decisions with regards to the choice of seafarers to run their ships efficiently and effectively.
Initiated in 2009 and continuing through the years with support of shipping associations (FOSMA and MASSA), the Seafarers Wages Benchmarking Survey has indeed come a long way. It continues to evolve and grow in terms of participation, contents, scope, data analysis and its presentation. 2020 witnessed participation of 48 major ship owners and managers.
To mark the 13th anniversary of the Global Seafaring Human Resources Survey, we have released the report on a BRAND-NEW SURVEY WEB PORTAL indigenously developed by ISF! The portal boasts of secure logins for each participating organization with real time analyses and serves as a ready reckoner at all times. It can generate valuable information for wages, benchmarking, budgeting across various countries, several ship types and all onboard ranks.
This thirteenth annual report is available in a generic format in addition to the web portal to which each participating member has an access and can generate customized statistics for decision making. The 2021 survey covers twenty-nine thousand three hundred fifty-six (29356) Indian seafarers’ on-board positions across fifty-one (51) participating companies. The number of participating companies and onboard positions of seafarers has been growing over the years as is evident from below figure.
